Simply Masa - Audiobook / Boris Akunin

Having not yet read "Planet Water" and "Not Saying Goodbye", I nevertheless took up the new book. Considering that the annotation promised Masa's story without reference to the Fandorin cycle, I think it was justified. I would like to thank the author, he lived up to expectations and I liked the book.
Indeed, this book is primarily aimed at fans of Erast Fandorin, since it was his adventures that were associated with the figure of his Japanese servant for many years. But the book is not only for fans of the cycle, it is also for those who love Japan, the yakuza, the samurai and just good literature.
The style of the novel is melodic, and the brightness of the narrative probably reminds me of cherry blossoms, which I have never seen.Japan is presented very vividly, brightly and realistically. The adventures are so atmospheric that Fandorin's figure gradually fades into the background. By the way, for the fans, I will stipulate that Erast Petrovich will also appear in the novel, at least in an episode.
What is this book about? First of all, of course, about Japan, about its traditions and legends. About Masa's parents, about whom not only the reader knew nothing before, but also the main character himself. Theirthe story is presented by the author in the spirit of a beautiful Japanese legend. In general, the whole time there was an impression that you were watching a beautiful film, the atmosphere was conveyed so vividly.
Masa, after serving with Fandorin, returns to his homeland with the goal of opening a detective agency, because he has a lot of experience. And thisthe novel is our hero's investigations, which are quite dynamic. There are chases, yakuza, and ancient legends.
Usually I don't say anything about the edition, but in this case I'll make an exception. This book is better read on paper. The edition is colorful, with magnificent illustrations and a very tactile binding. You get pleasure simply from holding the book in your hands.
ButThe audiobook didn't work for me. It's a kind of audio performance, with songs, melodies and so on. It seems to me that it's completely unnecessary. You listen to it, you delve into it, you become imbued with it, and then a Japanese jazz singer or a Cossack choir starts singing in your ear. An acquired taste, in a word.
